Sound & visual art installation + Music show + Soundwalk | Edzi'u: The Moose Are Life

Sound & visual art installation + Music show + Soundwalk | Edzi'u: The Moose Are Life

Installation + Music Performance + Guided Soundwalk.  Installation runs for two days; show is at 8PM on April 19th. Exact installation run-times TBD.

Soundwalk is on @2PM April 20th, starts at the Boutique but meanders through surrounding neighbourhood.

Vancouver-based, Tahltan and Tlingit Musician Edzi’U presents ‘The Moose Are Life’, a visual sound installation that speaks to the disappearance of the moose in Tahltan Territory.

The low numbers of moose in Northern BC have been said to be from a direct result to over hunting in the area, however, the province of BC will not introduce limited entry hunting regulations. Moose counts aren’t showing much of decline, but the fact remains: Tahltan aren’t seeing the same amount of moose. The piece speaks to our colonial inheritance of Indigenous peoples, and the invasive  systems of capitalism, colonialism, and non-resident hunters in Tahltan Territory.

This weekend of immersion in to Edzi’u’s sound and performance world will feature a drop-in sound installation, a live performance, and a guided walk.

Vivian Smith | Exhibition | Invisible Foundations: Labour, Gender, & Economic Cycles

Through photographs printed on household textiles and transformed into domestic objects, my work examines how gendered expectations around unpaid domestic labor continue to limit women's economic independence. The installations use traditionally feminine materials and techniques to reveal how modern economic systems still rely on women's unpaid domestic work, making visible this often overlooked form of labor that remains essential to our economy.

Super Vision: New Work by Shea Proulx

Super Vision is a series of large paintings Shea made with the generous support of the Canada Council for the Arts in 2021. Join us to celebrate the creation of a body of work that began with Shea's drive to keep drawing in whatever time she could scrounge together as a mother to small children. What started as a necessity has developed into a full-blown obsession with the bizarre qualities of play-structures, medical offices, colossal blooms, and a compulsion to share her recipe for transforming familiar places into surreal-landscapes. The sketchbooks that inspire Shea's entire art practice can be viewed by request, and her published books will be available to purchase.

FRI OCT 4th 4-9, SAT OCT 5th 12-LATE, SUN OCT 6th 10-4

Lilith; Beyond the Myth | Art Exhibition

Lilith; Beyond the Myth | Art Exhibition

Originating in Mesopatoamian and Jewish mythology, folklore, and religious tradition, Lilith is a figure with a rich and complex history spanning cultures and centuries.

Her portrayal evolved over time, with different civilizations interpreting her in various ways; from demon and seductress, to a symbol of female empowerment. Independent, free-spirited and refusing the rules of men.

Within this collection of pieces, Lilith serves as a focal point for exploring the intricacies of gender dynamics, power structures, and identity. Rather than being depicted as a monstrous figure, Lilith is presented as a nonconforming individual —an embodiment of everyday womanhood, forging her own path with unwavering determination.

Opening Reception June 21st 6pm to 10pm / June 22nd 2pm to 8pm / June 23 2pm to 6pm
