He/him
Riley is a portrait photographer who specializes in creating unique, one-of-a-kind images using the wet plate collodion process. With a passion for the artistry of traditional photography, Riley has developed a keen eye for capturing the beauty and essence of his subjects in hauntingly beautiful images.
The wet plate collodion process, which dates back to the 1850s, involves coating a metal plate with collodion, then sensitizing it with silver nitrate to make it light-sensitive. The plate is then exposed in-camera and developed immediately after, resulting in a unique, high-quality image that has a distinctive, ethereal quality.
Riley has been honing his skills in this time-honoured process since 2019, trying to master the delicate balance between chemistry, technique, and artistry required to create stunning, timeless images. His portraits are characterized by their depth, richness, and luminosity, and his ability to capture the nuances of their subjects in a way that is both honest and intimate.
His work is a testament to the enduring power of photography to capture the beauty and essence of our humanity, and to create lasting connections across time and space.
