She/her
Kelly Isaak is a contemporary figurative artist deeply immersed in the art of drawing.
The exploration of light and dark is fundamental to her artistic process, both symbolically and literally. This dichotomy is explored through the memories and experiences of the individuals depicted in her work. This allows for different interpretations of those stories to be revealed. The shifting perceptions of one’s experiences and how they become abstracted over time fascinate her. Using graphite’s silvery tones as her primary medium, she navigates those greys that lay somewhere between reality and its recollection. Her work ultimately aims to share stories of human experiences through the lens of the Female Gaze, aiming to evoke a sense of connection within those who encounter her work.
Isaak earned her BFA from Alberta University of the Arts (formerly Alberta College of Art and Design) and a B.Ed. from the University of Calgary. Isaak’s work has been exhibited in Canada and the US.
